Threats

The main threats to the affected habitats/species in the area of the project:

The presence and proliferation of non-native exotic aquatic species. Non-native alien species are the second largest cause of loss of global biodiversity.
The risk of extinction in Banyoles lake of populations of species of European interest: the european pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), the mediterranean pond turtle (Mauremys leprosa), the Mediterranean Barbel (Barbus meridionalis) and freshwater mussels (Unio elongatulus).
Recreational fishing in the lake.
The increasing eutrophication of a part of the lake bottom and degradation of vegetation of European interest.
The proliferation of non-native exotic plant species in alluvial habitats of community interest.
Retreat of the alluvial habitats of waterside woods of community interest.
